Zoonotic Diseases

are spread between animals and humans.  They account for more than 60% of all infectious diseases.  Many of these diseases are spread while rodents wander around at night looking for food, water and nesting materials.  They are continually dropping urine, feces and hairs which may come into contact with food, eating utensils, bedding and insulation; potentially contaminating them with serious, life-threatening diseases.

Rabies

Contracted when bitten by an infected animal.  Rabies vector species include: bats, raccoons, skunks, coyotes and foxes.

Leptospirosis

Contracted through direct contact with the urine or other animal body fluids of infected animals or direct contact with contaminated soil, food or water.

Histoplasmosis

Contracted by inhaling the contaminated spores found in bat droppings.

Hantavirus
